Challenge and SCM’s Expertise

We are committed to sustainability and innovation; by allowing cement producers to partially replace clinker in the cement composition with alternative materials, known as Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs), our products enable improvement in cement performances & a significant reduction on the environmental impact.

SCMs are primarily composed of industrial by-products like, limestone, fly ash, blast furnace slag, and more recently, calcined clays. While these materials offer environmental benefits, they do not provide sufficient performance and strength when used alone in concrete. To address this challenge, our teams have worked closely with our customers to develop the EnviroAdd™ range. These innovative products offer tailor-made, sustainable solutions that reduce carbon footprint and costs while delivering superior performance.

Our teams have been at the forefront of industry advancements. We lead the development of activators that enhance the use of SCMs during the grinding process in cement manufacturing. These activators significantly improve the mechanical properties of both cement and concrete, ensuring high-quality results for our customers.

Supplementary Cementitious Materials

EnviroAdd Activators – Advanced applications

Next Generation Activators to enable cement producers to reduce clinker% and CO2 emissions.

  • With superior performance Vs. ‘conventional’ additives (i.e., OPTEVA®, AMA™).
  • Typically used by cement plants at significantly higher treatment cost (€ / ton of cement).

EnviroAdd 3000 Product was tested on multiple CEM II/A-LL 42.5R cements from around EU.

On average, it enhanced 2-day strengths by 6 MPa and 28-day by 8 MPa

After transitioning from 100% fossil fuels to partially using RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) :

  • 2-3 MPa loss at all ages in CEM I 52.5R

Driven by unfavorable kiln conditions :

  • Reducing conditions
  • More heterogeneous material
  • Higher Mg (shown in periclase)
  • Higher total alkali
  • Reduced flux content
  • More low-reactivity alite

EnviroAdd™ activators offset the negative impact of switching from fossil fuels to “green” fuels.

Alternative fuels

An industrial trial with LC3-50 Cement (30% calcined clay, 15% limestone). Robust increases in compressive strengths :

  • + 5 MPa at 1 day (+38%) with EnviroAdd™ “C”
  • + 8 MPa at 28 days (+18%) with EnviroAdd™ “B”.
  • Customized Additive EnviroAdd™ “A” met cement plant’s target performance at all ages.

LC3 + “A” for example is a combination of LC3 and Customized solutions of EnviroAdd.

Customized EnviroAdd™ activators enable meeting the specific requirements of low-clinker cements.
